#SoCS & #JusJoJan 2021 Daily Prompt – Jan. 16th-“first thing”

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “first thing.” Start your post with the words, “first thing” and go from there. Bonus points if you end your post with the last thing. Have fun!

I always have “first things” to do at different times of the day. The first thing I do when I wake up, the first thing when I get to work, and the first thing when I get home. And this morning, this prompt was supposed to be the first thing I will do before starting to clean. Guess what. I forgot and now it’s my last thing before I go to bed.

JusJoJan prompt the 10th~”cheese”

How many people grew up thinking the moon was made of cheese? That was the story my mother told us when we were kids. She loves making all kinds of stories and the story of the moon been made of cheese was our favorite. I don’t remember all the details of the story it has been a long time ago.

However, the funny part was this little mouse name Miguel who by mistake gets into this spacecraft. Miguel came out of the spacecraft and he gets lost. The astronauts did their work and leave the moon except for Miguel who is trying to get back to the spacecraft. It was too late when he got there.  He begins to get hungry and took a chunk of cheese. The moon was upset because she was there to give us light at night.

Well, I can’t remember what happened next, but for us it was special. I should look at her notebooks she has lots of cute notes.

SoCS~ List

I considered myself to be a fanatic of writing lists. I don’t have the same sharp memory from a few years ago. I need them to function at work and at my home. I’ll be lost if I don’t have my sticky notes everywhere. December is the month I have more lists than ever. I have a Christmas gift list, groceries list, Christmas card send list, and a to-do list. Thanks to that list I don’t miss a gift or a Christmas card. It saves me the time to run an errand at the last minute or feel embarrassed that I missed a gift.

To my surprise, my Christmas gift shopping is all done. You can imagine how I feel. For the first time in years, everyone on my list has been crossed out including my husband. For the most part, I did my shopping online. I didn’t realize how easy and convenient way to shop.  The majority of my shopping was from local businesses. This year I cut down from the big franchise stores and help our locals.

The real challenge here is the wrapping part. For me, that’s the toughest job and I don’t get any help. So as soon, they begin to arrive I will try to get it done. So, what’s next? Next weekend I will be sending Christmas cards and make cookies. I feel more relaxed and enjoying the moment. I did decorate my Christmas tree the day after Halloween. I feel wonderful and not as rushed as other years.

I don’t know yet what I’m doing for Christmas. My two boys will be here but my daughter won’t be traveling because of the Covid-19.

I just hope we can all have a nice and safe Christmas.

SoCS~ “Ring”

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ring.” Use it as a noun, a verb, an adverb, or an adjective…use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

One of my favorite movies is The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I watch the movie before I knew there was a book. Usually, I read the book first and watch the movie later on. For me, the book it’s always better and the movie gets to be disappointed. This time it was different I ended loving both.

One of so many favorite parts is when for the first time Frodo runs for his life he fell on the ground and the ring goes on his finger. Frodo experiences the darkness of the ring and he sees the bad spirits. Of course, the book is kind of a little different. However, I considered it one of my favorite movies and books.

SoCS~ Old/New

I’m doing my fall cleaning. I can’t believe how much stuff I have accumulated during all these years. A lot of old clothes, towels, and sheets. The hard part is getting rid of my kids’ stuff. I know I don’t need to keep every single art project or notebooks. Their bedroom closet is full of school papers, old toys, and clothes. It’s time to start downsizing. I talk to the three of them and they can pick up whatever they want to keep and the rest has to go. As my husband and I get older we want fewer things to clean.  Besides I’m getting lazy with age and less cleaning it will be better. Also, I will love to buy a few new things that I will like to have before I retired. I will love to buy a new mattress and a new couch.

For now, I got three boxes for donations and two bags in the garbage. The cleaning it’s not over but at least I’m seeing some progress.

SoCS~ “tion”

Since the pandemic, I have no motivation at all. I try to read or write however nothing it’s inspiring. Then I went to the doctor and I have rheumatic arthritis in my knees. I told him to keep adding more and he reminds me of my age. I thought being 60 was the new 50s it’s not what everyone says. To everyone that’s a big fat lie. Hahaha!

I’ve been back to work and it’s exhausted. I’m wearing a mask all day. I cook for the students and standing on cement floors it’s caused more pain in my knees. Not to mention we don’t have air conditioning as a result the kitchen is hot as an oven. When I get home, I want to sit down on my couch and not move at all.

I started meditation not too long ago, it has been helpful. I will end sleeping. And for arthritis, there is no solution it will get worse with age. Nothing I can do there.

Of course, the best medicine for all these aches and tiredness would be a nice vacation. That’s what I told my husband. Oh yeah, I’m ready for a nice vacation.

SoCS~ “Brush”

For the past six months, I will tell my granddaughters to brush their hair.  I shouldn’t be telling them to brush it all the time. They’re old enough to take care of themselves.

Their hair is long, frizzy, and extremely curly. It’s a lot of work especially when it’s dry. As soon as they wake up, they prefer to get it wet and apply lotion. It looks beautiful and shiny; however, by the end of the day, it looks wild. That’s when they love wearing a bun, a hat, or a ponytail.

I’ve suggested cutting it short it will be easier however they love their long hair. My oldest who will be turning sixteen loved it all wild. I was reminding them to brush it.  Now their back with their mom and I noticed they have their hair done and looking great all day. So, what it means they’re lazy when they’re here with me and with their mom it’s a different story. So, for the past six months, I was telling them to brush their hair constantly, I will say it a million times a day. Ha, ha, ha!

SoCS~ “Pro & Con”

School starts in two weeks and parents are excited about the kids being out of their home. We will have a restricted guideline including wearing a mask. Some parents don’t like the idea of their kid wearing a mask all day. So, immediately they start to complain. Some of them are going too far with this issue and they’re overreacting. They’re making the situation more complicated than it is. They should be pleased and happy we will have school. Also, they have a choice to have their kids using the distance learning program for the first nine weeks if they don’t feel it’s safe.

What’s the con and pro of wearing a mask in school? And what about us the staff? I work in the kitchen cooking and serving so imagine how hot it’s going to be.

So, the pro of wearing a mask to school will be the protection and safety of every student and staff member.  And the con of wearing the mask it’s some difficulty of doing our jobs properly and the concentration of the students when it gets hot. Also, and some of the kids don’t understand the importance of washing hands, keep your hands to yourself, and the social distance. With all the guidelines we will have it’s going to be an interesting school year and a challenge. Let’s see how it works.

SoCS~ “Pro & Con”

I have been absent from my blog and social media for a while. I took a break to take care of myself. Mentally, I wasn’t in a good place. Taking this break and with the doctor increasing my medication, I’m feeling much healthier.  It was the right decision.

Yes, I’m behind on some projects around the house. I have a pile of books to read and chores to finish. Since I’m feeling more energetic, I will catch up. No more feeling miserable or sad with myself. I permitted myself to take breaks when I’m overwhelmed. My doctor suggested taking those breaks at least once a month.

Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the last three weeks of vacation. I’m waiting for the school district to decide on when the schools begin. We’re waiting for the new guidelines and if we can go back to the building. It’s going to be an interest school year that’s for sure.
