- Writing 101: Be Brief– Day 5
You discover a letter on a path that affects you deeply. Today, write about this encounter. And your twist? Be as succinct as possible.
I’ve been cleaning my closet and putting away winter clothes, shoes, and a few purses. I was checking the purses and found an envelope.
I can’t remember exactly the day I got it; then again, I know who gave it to me. The envelope has a red sticker in the shape of a heart. I can’t believe I completely forgot this letter.
I opened it. The letter has a drawing of a heart painted with crayons. My initial the letter M was written in the middle of the heart. Then my granddaughter who was 8 at that time wrote me this letter.
Dear grandma (here she draws a small heart)
I love you grandma (another heart). You are in my heart forever (another heart).
Love, Jo (a heart with our initials M & J)
She gave me this letter before moving to Florida. After I read this letter it brought me to tears. After a year living in Florida, my daughter decides to move back home. Jo was excited to be back with grandma.
One day, I will show her this letter, meanwhile I’ll treasure it.
I’m blessed to have the love of my grandkids and thankful that they moved back home.

I recently became a grandma (one yea ago ) The year has gone quickly, but I have been lucky to see my granddaughter many times over the year. I understand the tear, it describes the feeling I had when I Baby granddaughter out stretched her arms to come to me…thanks for sharing your sentiments.

Aww this is so sweet and heartfelt! I enjoyed this because it was lighter, and did not end in an enormous revelation, but a warm ending 🙂

This is one my favorites from your blog. In the short writing it evoked a lot of emotion. It made me think of my grandmother and smile. Thank you for that.

Your posts are very sweet and I think I get a good feel for who you are, which is great. My only recommendation would be to work on your grammar a little bit so that your verb tense is consistent. Keep it up!
