Writing 101: Third Time’s the Charm- Day 16

Today, imagine you work in a place where you manage lost or forgotten items. What might you find in the pile? For those participating in our serial challenge, reflect on the theme of “lost and found,” too.

This is my third and final story about Angel.

I’ve been cleaning my house throwing away what I don’t need. It’s too much clutter that I have kept over the years. I’ve made two piles, one I considered garbage and the second it’s the keeper. On my drawers I find all kinds of things. What anyone will find in those piles?

On the garbage pile will be old addresses that I don’t need them anymore, pieces of paper, old broken toys, and mismatch items.

On the keep pile, will be pictures of my childhood and my children. The pictures would recreate beautiful memories. I can sit there for hours.

I found a few pictures of Angel. One of the pictures he’s sleeping in my bed on top of my stuffed animals. I don’t even remember taking this picture; however he did like to sleep with my stuffed animals. Every day I will come from school and there he was lying down in my bed. I will hug and kiss him hard that he will run under the bed. Then after a few minutes he will jump again in my bed. He will love to play with them.

When he was a year and a half I made a wedding for him. My mom wasn’t too happy. A friend of mine has a female Siamese. What a cute cat. Her name was “Flor” (means a flower). We want her to have kittens. Angel was a black and white cat with lots of hair. I never knew what type of cat he was.

On a Saturday we plan the wedding and my youngest brother will be the priest. It was fun and we took photos. I wish I would have some of those pictures; we have several floods where we lost many photos. By the way Flor has kittens; however I wasn’t allow having one.

Another photo I found I’m in front of the Christmas tree with Angel in my arms. I wrote in that picture Christmas Eve 1979. I do remember that Christmas. He got a new collar with rhinestones. My mother says to me the collar looks for a female cat. For me he looks cute.

The photos begin to bring memories and tears to my eyes. I remember his last days. He was a playful cat. He will wait for me every time I was out of the house. After the holiday season was done, I went back to college. I kiss him again and told him to behave.

Two weeks past and I came home. My mother informs me that Angel disappeared a week ago and no one knows what happen to him. I cry. I ask questions to my neighbors checking if someone saw him. No one did. My mother told me they all went to bed and he was sleeping when everyone wakes up the next morning he was gone.

I look for him and wait for him to show up. He never did. To this day I never knew what happen to Angel.

Those are the memories that come to you when you find old pictures.

  1. I know all too well how easily you can be distracted by the things you are supposed to be sorting through! I’m sorry to hear that Angel disappeared, it’s hard to come to terms with a loss you don’t understand. Thanks for sharing this story!
